Here is an outstanding, early original, signed on the base : KPM over crossed swords with additional incised numbers, "OWL and the PUSSY CAT", heavy figural bisque, fairy (night) lamp with original glowing inset glass eyes. This exceptional example is much heavier than the later versions and has the double-drilled holes on each side along with the original fine metal hanging chains. One side has a wonderful large face of a grey OWL with "glowing amber eyes" and the other shows an equally beautiful face of a PUSSY CAT with big " green glowing eyes". Both creatures are heavily molded showing detailed feathers, beak, whiskers and fur, tiny blue molded bows at the base on each side AND unusual molded rings in each of their ears with blue tassels.

Consult, Collector's Book of Fairy Lamps by Bob & Pat Ruf for further reference. These lamps originally were designed to hold a round flat candle and the remains of the original candle are still in the base. These charming lamps were also later produced in Germany of a much thinner bisque and without the handles and chains for use on a table.
