Mt. Washington Pressed Petal Candlestick Boston & Sandwich Glass 1845-1869
This is a candlestick manufactured by The Mt. Washington Glass Company of Boston, MA. It is often mistaken by sellers as from The Boston & Sandwich Glass Company of Sandwich, MA and in reality is a lot scarcer than Sandwich. Part of that confusion is due to the time frame, similarities in form and the owner, Deming Jarves, who owned both companies at one time. It dates from 1845 to 1869 and is listed and pictured in Joan Kaiser's book, "The Glass Industry In South Boston" as #210. Normally these can be found in clear, clambroth and opaque white bases with blue or light green sockets. In fifty years of collecting I have only seen TWO with this configuration of cornflower blue "waterfall" base with opaque white socket. Ideal for the advanced collector, it measures just under 8 high and comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home.
