Portieux Vallerysthal Blue Milk Glass Chimeres Pair of Candle Holders

  

For sale I have a pair of candle holders made by Portieux Vallerysthal. They are blue milk glass and the pattern name is Chimeres. This is a rare and hard to find pattern consisting of elaborate beading, fluting, scroll work and depictions of the mythical creature known as a Chimera. The glass is beautiful French opaline opaque robins egg blue.

This set does have some issues to be aware of One candle holder has some roughness on the head of one of the creatures. This candle holder also has one area of roughness on the inside rim of the base. The other candle holder has two areas of roughness on the outside rim of the base. Both candle holders have bits of excess glass at the seams which can be felt when you run your finger around the bases.

I believe these issues are related to the manufacturing process but potential buyers need to be aware of their presence. I have tried to take extreme close up pictures of the areas mentioned (pictures #2 thru #7). Measurements are 4 ½ inches across the base, 2 ½ inches across the top and 8 inches tall. Please look carefully at the pictures Ive included.

It is also likely to have characteristics inherent to the manufacturing process of glassware back then such as variations in color and finish, mold marks, straw marks, shear marks, crimp marks, bubbles, inclusions, malformations, heat checks, rough seams, spots of excess glass, just to mention a few. These are not considered to be damage They are part of the personality of glass of this era and make each piece truly unique.
